Conductive Keratoplasty, or CK®, at Our Century City Office

Conductive keratoplasty, or CK®, is offered at our Century City office to patients who are farsighted or patients with reading difficulties who are seeking an effective and safe alternative to laser procedures such as LASIK and PRK.

Do You Currently Use Reading Glasses?

Most baby boomers are noticing that their vision is slowly changing. Perhaps you’ve noticed that you now need corrective lenses for such tasks as night driving, computer work, or reading the paper. This can be very frustrating, especially if you’ve never had to wear glasses before. Farsightedness and presbyopia (or age-related farsightedness) is becoming very common, affecting more than 90 million people in the United States alone.

If you have refrained from getting LASIK because you’re concerned about possible risks, CK® at the West Los Angeles office of Century City Eye may be the solution you’ve been looking for. Rather than using a laser to reshape the cornea, CK® uses radio frequency energy to steepen the cornea and reduce or even eliminate farsightedness and presbyopia.

How CK® Works

Conductive keratoplasty, (CK®) reshapes the cornea, thus changing the way that light is focused within the eye. In an untreated farsighted eye, light focuses on a point beyond the retina; therefore, images are blurry. To correct this focusing error, CK® shrinks a band of corneal tissue in a circle, pulling the cornea into a new shape. An eye that is treated with CK® will more clearly see near objects, and the patient will be able to reduce their dependency on reading glasses.

The CK® Procedure – Easy and Quick

CK® allows busy Los Angeles area patients to receive state-of-the-art vision correction without having to worry about rescheduling activities or taking several days off of work. Because CK® corrects farsightedness without creating a flap in the cornea, the procedure can be completed in a few minutes at Century City Eye. After applying a topical anesthesia, the doctor will treat each eye with the radio frequency energy that is the hallmark of CK®. In most cases, treatment can be completed within minutes!

You will be free to return to your job and your daily activities the next day – CK® does not require the same downtime for healing as does LASIK or PRK.

CK® – Impressive, Life Changing Results

CK®, performed by the doctors at our Century City office, has proven to be safe and effective; it has become one of the most useful tools in combating presbyopia in our aging population. Clinical studies performed by the FDA have shown the amazing results of CK®. Twelve months after CK® treatment, 98 percent of patients did not need reading glasses to see newspaper-size print.
